Disability & Elder Care

Services for the elderly and disabled must be expanded and protected from budget cuts. Affordable housing units and retirement communities ought to be built near town centers to improve walkability, allow residents to be fully included in their neighborhoods, and minimize social isolation.

Services for Seniors

Chris will work to create a hotline to allow the elderly and disabled to contact an agent to help them navigate county resources, housing, advocates, recreation, and emergency services.

In order to allow residents to age in place, Chris will fight for progressive taxation at the state level to prevent seniors from being burdened by property tax hikes.

We ought to give discounts to non-profit senior and disability groups for their use of athletic facilities and other community facilities--it is outrageous that the Special Olympics is unable to book time at a swim center named after its founder, Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

Caring for Those with Special Needs

Over half of all people killed by the police have a disability: police officers and firefighters must be given advanced training for interacting with the disabled, to prevent potentially deadly interactions.

Additionally, we should require that corporations who benefit from tax incentives provide a certain amount of full-paying jobs for workers with disabilities.
